What does the Speed Limit Sign Recognition do on the Mach E?
The Speed Limit Sign Recognition system reads speed limit signs as you drive past them. It then shows this on the information display in front of you. This functions as a reminder of the road-specific speed limit at all times.
If you exceed the speed limit (by a preset amount), the system will warn you. You should reduce your speed back to a safe rate.
It works by using the camera found in the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. Ensure this isn’t affected by any modifications or repairs to the area.
The Mach E’s Speed Limit Sign Recognition doesn’t limit your speed automatically. You’ll still need to keep your eye on the road warnings and speed limit signs. It’s your responsibility to ensure you don’t exceed these – the system is only an aid.
How do you turn the Speed Limit Sign Recognition on in the Mustang Mach E?
Follow the instructions below to turn the Speed Limit Sign recognition on in the Mach E.
- Open the vehicle drawer in the central touchscreen.
- Go to Settings.
- Choose Driver Assistance.
- Turn Speed Limit Assist on.
The camera now actively reads the speed limit signs. You’ll see them popping up on your display as you drive.
Turning the Mach E’s Speed Limit Sign Recognition off
Turning the Speed Limit Sign Recognition system off is simple. Access the same menu as you did to activate it in the first place. Follow the below instructions:
- On the infotainment system, access the vehicle drawer.
- Open Settings.
- Select Driver Assistance.
- Find Speed Limit Assist and turn it off.
Your Mach E will now stop reading speed limit signs as you pass them.
Changing the Mach E’s Speed Limit Sign Recognition tolerance
The speed tolerance on this system on the Mach E warns you when you exceed the speed limit. You can set it to 5 mph, 10 mph, or 15 mph above the recognised limit. At this point, the car will warn you, advising you to reduce your speed.
- Open the vehicle drawer and choose Settings.
- Choose Driver Assistance.
- Select Speed Limit Assist.
- Adjust the Tolerance using the slider.
Mustang Mach E: Speed Limit Sign Recognition limitations
The Mach E’s speed limit assist program won’t work in all circumstances. Here are a few situations to watch out for:
- If the camera is impeded, it can’t read the road signs. For example, there could be a crack across its view.
- The Speed Limit Sign Recognition might read the wrong sign. For instance, it might show you the speed limit on a parallel road or an adjoining street with a badly placed sign.
- Some speed limit signs are outdated, dirty, worn, criminally graffitied, sabotaged, etc. The Mach W’s camera will struggle to correctly identify these.
- Heavy rain, snow, sleet, ice on the windshield, dust or sand storms, and so on can all stop the sensor from reading the speed limits.
- The map data the system uses to compare with its readings could be outdated or incorrect.
You must always drive with due care and attention. Speed Limit Sign Recognition helps you to remember the speed limit – it doesn’t replace your need for looking out the windshield and driving safely.
