BMW iX

If you regularly accidentally exceed the road rules, turning on a speed limit warning is a good idea. These help you to drive safely and legally, meaning you’re less likely to be involved in accidents or pulled over by the police.
Many modern cars come with speed limit warning systems, including the BMW iX.
Although you’re unlikely to approach the BMW iX’s top speed unless you’re on a racetrack or Germany’s Autobahn, you could set the warning as high as this.
Always follow the laws of the roads in the country you’re in, including the speed limits. Before operating your BMW iX, don’t neglect to read the owner’s manual! You’ll find it in your car.
Now, let’s get into it.

How does the BMW iX speed limit warning work?

The speed limit warning is a simple bit of tech. You can store a pre-set speed limit in the iX’s memory. The car will warn you when you hit that number, prompting you to slow down.
For example, if you set the car’s speed limit as 65 mph, the warning will activate as soon as you hit it.
The speed limit warning on the 2022 BMW iX isn’t adaptable to the actual current speed limit set by the road.

How do you activate the BMW iX speed limit warning?

To turn on the speed limit warning, follow the instructions below:

  1. Press the Quick Access button on the center console.
    • It’s a car icon with three horizontal lines on the right.
  2. Choose Driver assistance.
  3. Select Driving.
  4. Open Safety and warnings.
  5. Go to Speed warning.
  6. Activate the speed warning feature.

How do you set the current speed as the BMW iX speed limit warning?

You can set your current speed as the speed limit warning. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. On the center console, tap the Quick Access button.
  2. Select Driver assistance.
  3. Open Driving.
  4. Choose Safety and warnings.
  5. Go to Speed warning.
  6. Select Adopt current speed.

How do you manually set the speed limit for the warning?

The easiest way to select the speed for the warning is to choose it manually. Follow these instructions to do this.

  1. Tap the Quick Access button on the center console, by the Parking Assist button.
  2. Open Driver assistance.
  3. Choose Driving.
  4. Go to Safety and warnings.
  5. Select Speed warning.
  6. Find Adopt current speed.
  7. Choose the speed you want the limit to activate at.

It’s most sensible to set the speed limit as the local highway limit on your everyday commute.

Can you set the speed limit warning at the BMW iX max speed?

The BMW iX’s max speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h (124 mph). You could set this as the speed limit warning if you wish, but there isn’t much point. You can’t exceed this speed anyway.
If you’re approaching the BMW iX’s top speed, it should only be off the street or on a road without a speed limit (such as the German Autobahn).
At this speed, the range will dramatically reduce, too.
Never drive your BMW iX at this speed unless you’re a trained and experienced driver. A collision or loss of traction could well be fatal.

How to deactivate the BMW iX speed limit warning

Deactivate the BMW iX speed limit warning in the same menu as where you activate it.

  1. Touch the Quick Access button on the center console.
  2. Use the selector to open Driver assistance.
  3. Select Driving.
  4. Choose Safety and warnings.
  5. Go to Speed warning.
  6. Deactivate the BMW iX speed limit warning.

Before driving your BMW iX, keep an eye on the speed limit at all times, and remember that they change. Obey all the rules of the road and never depend on the speed limit warning.
